Abhimanyu slumped onto the cold, hard bench in the hospital lobby, the sterile smell of antiseptic stinging his nostrils.
He let out a heavy sigh, the weight of the day crashing down on him like a tidal wave.
His mind raced through the events of the day, each moment flashing like a twisted film reel.
First, his own student had bested him in the boxing ring.
It had been an embarrassing defeat, one he was still reeling from.
Then, there was that punk, Anirudh, who had been itching for a fight.
After dealing with his goons, Abhimanyu had thought he could finally catch a break. But fate had other plans.
A car accident!.
Now, a woman he didn’t even know lay in surgery, and he was left here, marooned in this sterile hell.
“What the hell is wrong with my day?” he muttered under his breath, rubbing his temples in an attempt to ward off the headache brewing within.
The anger simmered beneath the surface, a pot about to boil over.
If anyone dared to approach him right now, he might just lose it.
With a final look around the hospital lobby, he pushed himself up from the bench.
The doctor could handle her.
He had already paid the bills; he was not in her debt.
Thinking that, he turned to leave, his shoulders heavy with frustration.
Unbeknownst to him, as he stormed out of the hospital, a group of men lingered in the shadows, their eyes fixated on his retreating figure.
........
In the Reception Area:
“Who was that?” the lead thug asked, nodding toward the door through which Abhimanyu had just exited.
“His wife is in the operating room,” the receptionist replied, her voice trembling as she caught the men’s intimidating gazes.
“His wife?” the thug repeated, eyebrows raised.
“What’s her name?”
“Uh, Avni. I think…” The receptionist hesitated, her instincts warning her that these men were in trouble.
The thug exchanged glances with his companions.
“Boss, he has a wife.”
On the other end of the line, a voice barked, “Find her. Bring her to me.”
“Okay, Boss,” they replied in unison, their expressions darkening as they strategized their next move.

Back in the Hospital Room:
The operation had finished.
The doctor wiped the sweat from his brow, turning to the nurse beside him.
“Where’s the husband? He should be here by now.”
“I don’t know, sir. He left a while ago, but he seemed anxious,” the nurse said, concerned etched across her face.
“Make sure to inform him if he returns. I need to speak with him urgently,” the doctor instructed, a sense of unease creeping over him as he left the room.

Author POV:
••••••••••••••••
Avni stirred, the harsh light blinding her as she blinked slowly.
The sterile surroundings felt foreign and frightening.
She squinted, attempting to adjust, but pain shot through her body with every tiny movement.
“Easy, easy! You shouldn’t move too much!” a nurse urged, rushing to her side.
“Where am I?” Avni’s voice trembled, panic rising as she took in her surroundings.
“In the city hospital. You were in an accident,” the nurse reassured her, gently adjusting her position.
“Just relax, please.”
“Who are you? Why am I here?” Avni’s fear was palpable, her heart racing.
“Everything is alright,” the nurse insisted gently.
Just then, the doctor entered, his presence a flicker of hope amid the chaos.
“Miss, how are you feeling?” he asked, checking her vitals.
“Pain in my head,” Avni replied, clutching her temples.
“Anything else?” he pressed, concerned by the look in her eyes.
“Yes! I… I don’t remember anything! Who am I? Why does my head hurt?” She was almost pleading, her confusion and fear overwhelming her.
The doctor took a deep breath, trying to find the right words.
“You were in a car accident last night. Your husband brought you here. Your condition was serious.”
Avni nodded slowly, absorbing his words but still lost in a fog of confusion and fear.
Before the doctor could say more, the atmosphere shifted abruptly.
A group of men stormed into the room, pushing past the startled nurse.
“Get away from her!” the doctor yelled, stepping in front of Avni protectively.
“Where’s Abhimanyu’s wife?” the leader demanded, a knife glinting menacingly at the doctor’s throat.
“I—I don’t know!” the doctor stammered, his heart racing as he tried to maintain control of the situation.
“Check the papers!” one thug barked, gesturing toward the table cluttered with medical documents.
“Don’t lie to me!” the leader snarled, throwing a punch that sent the doctor sprawling to the ground.
Avni shrank back, terror coursing through her veins.
“Who are you?” she whimpered as the thug approached, his breath rancid and threatening.
Ignoring her pleas, he seized her wrist, dragging her out of the bed.
“You’re coming with us.”
“Let go of me!” Avni screamed, struggling against his iron grip.
But it was no use.
With a brutal yank, the thugs pulled her toward the exit, the doctor and hospital security desperately attempting to intervene.
“Stop! You can’t do this!” the doctor shouted, his voice trembling with urgency.
One thug turned, waving his weapon threateningly.
“Stay back, or you’ll regret it!”
In the distance, a nurse frantically dialed the police, but it was too late.
Avni was dragged out of the hospital, barefoot and terrified.
“What are we going to tell her husband?” the nurse cried, panic etched across her face as she looked at the doctor, who was still staring in disbelief at the empty space where Avni had just been.
“I don’t know,” he whispered, his heart sinking as the gravity of the situation began to settle in.
The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting eerie shadows, leaving behind a trail of fear and uncertainty.
Abhimanyu was o
